The Ride
This 7.36-mile run starts low and, as a result, makes the climb to 3,141 ft feel genuinely earned. Threading through dense Blue Ridge forest inside the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, the road demands your full attention while simultaneously rewarding you with some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the Southeast. Additionally, the technical nature of the climb means you’re fully in the moment for every mile.
Eventually the road crests and drops you into a sweeping descent toward the Stonepile Gap rotary — one of North Georgia’s most satisfying natural turnaround points. Meanwhile, the surrounding forest keeps the experience immersive from start to finish.
Woody Gap — Worth the Stop
Along the way, you’ll pass Woody Gap, a well-known Appalachian Trail access point that’s absolutely worth a pull-off. In addition to panoramic Blue Ridge views, you’ll find AT thru-hikers passing through and the kind of mountain quiet that reminds you why you ride in the first place. Furthermore, if you want to stretch your legs before the descent, Preacher’s Rock is a short hike from the parking area and delivers stunning views of its own.
Base Camp — Two Wheels of Suches
Before or after this ride, Two Wheels of Suches should be your first call. Located in Suches, GA — the heart of North Georgia motorcycle country — this rider-first resort genuinely puts bikes at the top of the priority list. In addition to great food and comfortable lodging, you’ll find a community atmosphere where you’re surrounded by riders who love these roads as much as you do. Moreover, it’s perfectly positioned for Stonepile Gap, Wolf Pen Gap, and the entire Suches valley road network. As a result, most riders end up staying at least two nights — because the roads pull you back out every morning without fail.
